Holden's Thoughts

You know something, No Country for Old Men won all the Oscars Star Wars didn't. I.e. Best picture, director, supporting actor, and screenplay. Star Wars lost the majority of those Oscars to Annie Hall, which by the way, sucked. I hate Woody Allen.

I had a dream that this guy kept appearing in my bathroom mirror. He kept appearing in the mirror. Once he was drinking a tropical drink. Another time he was licking a lollipop. One time he was rapidly lifting some weights. When I though it was over I turned around, and there he was. Then it turned out to be a dream so when I went to the bathroom the guy was utilizing the can. I woke up again as him, and did all the same things as the first dream. But I appeared in the mirror instead. I woke up again, and the guy was sleeping next to me, and he woke up as suddenly as myself. He acted all scared, and did that thing from E.T., where the alien touches the kids' finger. Before me and the guy's fingers touched some bear like thing rose up from the middle of the pillows, and then I woke up as Dracula, and my wife, Deborah Leiberstien, said she needed to pick something up for her mom's birthday. Dracula, I mean, me, reassured her that we would think of something. I woke up again and the guy sprung up from the side of the bed.

I read the book and watched the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest a few months ago. May I say it is one of the finest artistic achievement in film ever. If you ask me it's certainly better than Citizen Kane. I'm not saying Citizen Kane wasn't good, I'm merely suggesting that it is uberly overrated. I think it's certainly good for its time period (i.e., the forties) but other than that, I just don't get why every critic praises it so widely. The cinematography is okay, the plot is a bit not-captivating, the acting is all right, has kind of a weird ending. I just feel Cuckoo's Nest is more inspirational, original, has better developed characters, and certainly no academy member was afraid to grant it five Oscars, whereas Kane only got one statue. You know why? Citizen Kane is based off of a guy by the name of William Hearst. Hearst was upset at the portrayal of him. I might have this wrong, but Hearst would have been furious if Citizen Kane won any Oscars. That is most likely why best picture went to How Green Was My Valley.

You've seen the movie Once right? Well if you ask me it is the best darn musical ever. I must say the Irish have simply outdone themselves. This masterpiece was, in my opinion, widely overlooked. It deserved that best original song Oscar, but what was so wrong with it that it only got one nomination? It was a better film than There Will Be Blood. It had the best soundtrack of all, the only one that could contend would be the Into the Wild soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. Obviously more uplifting than No Country for Old Men. Definitely more well liked than Michael Clayton or Atonement. I guess the only other film more overlooked was Into the Wild. This is a brilliant film by Sean Penn. With lovable, and some characters that you can't stand. This is especially sad since you know how it's going to end. But the academy hated it too much. This is my top ten list of the films of '07.
